A spacecraft crashes close to the Viking kingdom of Herot in Norway and the year is 709 DC. Kainan is the ships pilot and he has survived the accident. However he soon discovers that Moorwen the predator a passenger on the flight has scampered. In his pursuit of the escaped foe Kainan himself is arrested and taken to Heron as a prisoner.
