Charting the fortunes of a female doctor in early 20th-century America. The medic accepts a job in a small town only to discover the residents - which include a number of orphaned children - are dying from a mysterious ailment. She must find a cure for the disease and convince the townspeople that the orphans are not to blame for the outbreak.
